Daydream
Cuturi Gallery Singapore (2024)
A dreamlike world of playful narratives and exquisite craftsmanship.
In Daydream at Cuturi Gallery Singapore, Hubert Le Gall presented a selection of works that invited viewers into a dreamlike universe where objects existed in an “in-between” state; neither purely sculpture nor strictly design. Created in part especially for Singapore, these pieces unfolded as storytelling forms shaped by surreal gestures and playful imagination. What first appeared as furniture gradually revealed itself as poetic narrative, gently challenging conventional ideas of function and form.
Drawing from a wide range of influences – from Art Deco to Surrealism, from Greek mythology to Pop Art – Le Gall transformed traditional materials such as bronze, gilt, wood, porcelain, and tapestry into works crafted with exceptional artisanal skill. Highlights included L’Éternel Printemps (2018), The Pasiphaé (2022), and Chaos-crocodylus (2023), the latter depicting a suspended crocodile split open to reveal a bouquet of porcelain flowers: a whimsical juxtaposition of the fierce and the delicate that captured the spirit of his practice.
